About Alison

I am a college student about to graduate with a degree in hsitory and minor in liberal studies. I have taken numerous courses surrounding elementary cirrciulum. I am getting my Masters of Education in fall 2021. I have a passion for teaching and learning and plan on a career in teaching high school history. I have twelve years of child care experience and have worked in homes during distance learning in order to narrow whatever leanring gap may be there. I am currently shadowing in a middle school history classroom. I have also completed my C-BEST exam and working towards taking and completing my three social science C-SET exams in the near future.

I have always been passionate about teaching since I was a little girl. I began teaching sports and at my local church while in high school and escalted to classrooms when I entered college.

Throughout my college career I was an education major leanring the ins and outs of cirrciulum as well as lesson planning from a teacher stand point. I recently switched to history in order to challenge myself and learn more at a college level in the subject I am most passionate about. I have been wokring with children as a full time nanny for the past four years. As a nanny, I assissted with school work as well as distance leanring. I have also helped a child with a leanring disability in a manner that was friendly and inclusive.

About the lesson

When beginning to work with a new student I typically like to set a schedule with the student in a manner that they decide in hopes they are more inclined to stick to it. This way it allows the student to know what is coming next. I like to lay out the things the student is comfortable with already and the things that are more challenging. First we disect the things we understand and why we undertsand them then the same for the material that is difficult.

In the past I typically worked with children from the age of 3 all the way to the age of 14. I have worked with young children navigating online learning as well as children with learning disabiltiies such as dyslexia and ADHD.

A piece of advice I would give a student would be its okay that it is challenging. During these unprecident times it is absolutley understandable to feel discouraged or unmotivated when it comes to school work. I want to encourage you to try your best and know that you will undertsand it once it is taught to you in a form you are able to understand. There are dozens of different learning methods and due to distance learning, it is more difficult than ever to cater to every students leanring need. Although the goal of a teacher is to do just that, sometimes extra help is needed and that is okay.
