About Savannah

I cannot remember a time when I wasn't in school. It was because of teachers encouraging books and the written language that I love to read and write. There are over one hundred books on my shelves right now and the books I own are only a small fraction of what I've read in my life. In high school, most of my classes were honors or AP and I graduated in the top ten percent of my class. Currently, I am in enrolled in a college that allows me to pursue my dream of studying English; my studies consist of reading literature and mimicking it with writing. I have taken a few science classes and labs so I am knowledgable in how to write a creative short story and the mechanics of a lab report. My strongest skill on any test has always been the essay portion because even if I struggle with the information I am supposed to convey, I write what I know with eloeuqnce. I am a new tutor, but I am a hardworker, positive influence, and passionate about educating others of the beauty of English.

I graduated high school in 2018 and in the fall of 2019, I will be starting my second year of college. In high school, I took all honors and AP English classes. I took the AP English Language exam and passed with college credit, and took the AP English Literature class the next year without taking the AP exam. I received middle to high A's in all my English classes. This past semester, I took an introduction to creative writing course, which is something I am incredibly passionate about and have a lot of practice in. Additionally, I have experience and resources for writing lab reports.

About the lesson

I first like to get to know the student because their interests, dislikes, and opinions are important to their future learning. Then I like to pinpoint how they feel about the subject, what intrigues them and what they do not understand. Depending on the student, I like to see a sample of their previous work or have them take a pretest to gauge how their learning can grow. The rest of the session I like to do exercises that grow their abilities, because though English appears like it is a cut and dry subject, the only way to understand and enjoy it is to actively participate and respond to it. I like to end each session by reviewing what we learned and by the student feeling accomplished. It's the small victories that matter more, because they build up over time to become a huge victory.

Look for someone who you wish to work with, but also look for someone who wants you to feel inspired and accomplished. You want someone who will challenge you and help you push past the bare minimum expecations.
