About Amavi

I began teaching

I am a Junior at Seattle Acadmey of Arts and Sciences, and I have focuses in Criminology, English and Creative Writing, and Theatrical Production. I work as a peer tutor there and also tutor family members, including kids with a range of ages, interests, and abilities. I have experience teaching those with autism, dyslexia, discalculia(which I personally have), ADHD and ADD. I also have a job at The Little Gym where I work extensively with kids ages 2-12 and their parents, giving me additional skills in interacting with children.

About the lesson

With new students I generally spend the first hour(at just the base rate), discussing with the student(and guardians if asked for) what their aims are in tutoring and learning generally. We establish goals together based off of the time we have and what we want to accomplish. I also like to take that time to discuss grades, so I know how they are being graded and what the expectations are for them, by peers, educators and family. I believe that learning is more important than getting all A's, and if you truly understand something, the good grades will come along with it.

I work mainly with students kindergarten to eighth grade, and work extensively in humanities and test prep, with some additional work teaching Spanish. I have held a Lexile of 1600 since seventh grade

My pricing is variable based off of the student's age, the subject matter, any learning differences, and number of sessions payed for at a certain time. You can calculate your hourly cost below(in dollars).
Base rate: 15

Ages: +.50 for every year older than 10 (ex. 12 year old is two years older so $1 more)

Subject: +1.50 SSAT/ISEE test prep, +1 for essay writing, creative writing, or other humanities work, +2 for Spanish

Learning Differences: +1 for learning differences IF IT APPLIES TO THE SHBJECT (dyslexia for humanities, dyscalculia for math, dysgraphia for writing, etc). +1.5 for attention or behavioral differences
