About Hannah

I am currently a student at the University of Mississippi where I am double majoring in English and Secondary English Education with endorsements in science and special education in the Mississippi Excellence in Teaching Program. During my time at the university, I have maintained a 4.0 GPA while participating in volunteer work for underprivileged students in the delta as well as observing classrooms and completing my student teaching practicum. During my time in high school, I served on multiple committees, athletic teams, and student ambassador positions; I was awarded the title of Valedictorian of my class, and I couldn't wait to pursue a career in education! I am a big sister to two brothers, and I have grown up loving learning and hoping to help others do the same. My age and experience gives me a unique position to help students succeed in a positive, comfortable manner without fear of intimidation. I hope to help every student learn how to not only succeed but also enjoy learning!

I truly love to learn about just about everything! I am naturally a very curious person, and I love to spark the same questions in my students. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student enjoy a new book or finally understand a difficult concept. I want students to understand that learning is for everyone!

I have always had a love of learning, so it only seemed natural for me to pursue a career in education!

I am currently a double major in English and Secondary English Education at the University of Mississippi. I was admitted into the Mississippi Excellence in Teaching Program, I am an active participant in the Marks Project(educational enrichment for students living in Marks, MS), and I have completed part of my student teaching practicum.

About the lesson

Education should be personalized to every student in order to obtain optimal results. For that reason, I prefer that my students tell me more than just about their classes; I want to know about their likes/dislikes, hobbies, and even pets! Students listen best to those who listen to them, so developing a personal, yet professional relationship is vital to improving any academic skills. I fully believe that every child is capable of learning, but education must be individualized to do so. I prefer to obtain diagnostics on each child before beginning; I will discuss the student's performance with both student and parent in order to develop an appropriate plan for improvement.

I have had experiences with students in gifted, AP, basic, and special education. I have worked with students who have conditions such as ADD, ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and many more.

Students should always try to find someone that is friendly, flexible, and challenging! Learning requires a few hiccups in the road, and your teacher should never make you feel inferior or uncomfortable. Seek out a teacher who pushes and inspires his/her students both inside and outside of the classroom.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about:

-How do I learn best? (listening, writing, watching videos, etc.)

-What are my strengths?

-What are my weaknesses?

-When do I find learning most enjoyable?

-When is learning unenjoyable? Why?

-What subjects am I interested in?

-What are my hobbies?

-Do I have trouble seeing, hearing, or understanding instructions?

-When do I do my work best? (in the morning, at night)

-How can my teacher help me the most?
