About Anne
Hello! Overwhelmed by reading and essay-writing? Don't know what you're doing wrong or what to write next? My name is Anne Babic and I have a Bachelors in English and certifications to teach high school English and English as a Foreign Language. I currently teach Literature and Poetry at Veritas Preparatory Academy and I am looking to reach out to more students with reading and writing needs. My goal as your teacher is to make you feel competent and confident in your ability to analyze and compose meaningful texts.
I love when students are able to make connections between what they are reading or writing to the world around them. I also love to hear what the students think and believe about the text's themes of text or about the purpose of studying the English language. I also love guiding students through the writing process as they crystalize their thoughts about a theme and craft their arguments.
Since junior high, I have deeply valued the fulfillment and self-definition that comes with reading and writing. I want to pass on that power to everyone, especially young adults. The more I work with teens, the more I enjoy guiding them and creating relationships with them through literary conversation and analysis.
During the 2022-2023 school year, I taught 8th Grade Literature & Composition and 9th Grade Poetry, focusing on discussion, writing, grammar, literary analysis, and recitations. I guided my eighth grade students toward selecting, contextualizing, and analyzing text evidence, and I guided my ninth graders toward identifying figurative language and questioning how the poet's word choice reveals the poem's theme.
Throughout my Secondary Education Program at Elmhurst University (Elmhurst, IL), I worked with high school English teachers in online and in-person environments to create lesson plans and deliver instruction. I have taught close reading lessons, vocabulary instruction and guided students through the writing process. I also facilitated class discussions, created note-taking templates, and provided differentiated instruction.

5. Establish a tutoring schedule.
I have worked with many levels of students, from teaching elementary students to sound out words to adult learners practicing conversational English. While in college at Elmhurst University, I assisted college students with special needs in the classroom. During the 2022-2023 school year, I taught Literature, Grammar, and Poetry to eighth and ninth grade students.
Do not seek a teacher who will "do the writing for you" but one who explores the text and writing process WITH you.
A couple of days after Christmas this year, I went with my younger brother to the Driehaus Museum in downtown Chicago. The Driehaus Museum is an old mansion that has been recently restored and serves as a citadel of art and architecture from America's Gilded Age. The paintings and stained glass windows were my favorites! To end the day, we went to Pizzeria Due and shared margaritas over a deep dish pizza.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What specifically makes writing/reading so hard for me? Why? To the best of my ability, how can I turn "general improvement" into specific needs and goals? What feedback and instruction has my classroom teacher already given me that I can bring with me to my tutoring sessions?
