About Mary

I am a freelance language tutor. Growing up I have always had a niche for learning languages- I've spent the past 9 years teaching myself Spanish and French, and after teaching a few close friends I decided to obtain my certification (available upon request). My methods include weekly detailed lessons which break the language down into four major categories: reading, speaking, writing, and listening. I can have you fluent in Spanish and French within 4 months.

Learning a new language is a lot of work. It takes consistency and dedication. Working with a client and seeing their eyes light up when they finally understand something that they havent been understanding, like an "ah ha!" moment, or watching their confidence grow and how proud of themselves they become. Its really rewarding for me to see people achieve their goals

One day my best friend asked me to teach her how to speak Spanish and I found that I really enjoyed it

I lived in Spain for a summer, I minored in Spanish in college, I worked as a waitress in a prodimentaly Spanish speaking town in Connecticut (I have more real life experience with Spanish than French)

About the lesson

It depends on the student. If they have experiene with the language, then I will give them my own version of a placement test, to see how far they are with the language. If they are brand new to the language, we start slow. Learning the very basics, and slowly increasing the workload every week.

All levels. From beginning, to intermediate, to advanced. Some students could speak fluently but wanted to improve their writing skills, some students were really struggling with school and needed to get their grades up, and I have many students who didn't know a single word in the language that they were trying to learn and in about 4 months I had them fluent

I typically charge $15 an hour. If I have someone who cant afford $15 an hour I am always willing to discuss other options
