About Cal

I've only just started tutoring, but I enjoy seeing that spark of joy once someone understands something that they didn't before. My focus is to get students engaged in learning German.

I participated in a buddy system at my high school where we would be paired up with kids from the middle school to help teach them in various subjects.

I've been learning German since 6th grade, and am now taking 300 level classes in German in college. I've also participated in an exchange program that let me live in Germany for 2 and 1/2 weeks.

About the lesson

I like to make sure that I get to know how the student learns best, then work from there.

For anyone that wishes to contact me, I do not answer phone calls from unknown numbers, so leaving a voicemail with your information will be easiest for me to know that it is someone I need to interact with.

I've worked with many different types of students, all of which had different learning styles and attentiveness.

Definitely look for someone who you think you will work well with. Make sure that they seem either hard working, fun, or whatever you enjoy seeing in a teacher. Find someone you know you can learn from.

I have a roommate at the moment who is learning Greek and Latin. She asked me to teach her a bit of German at the beginning of the semester to see if there were any correlations between the languages she knew and the one she didn't. She got really excited when she was finally able to pronounce a full sentence and understand what it meant!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Definitely figure out first what level of tutoring you need/want. If you want intense sessions, make sure to specify what you might want to go over in a session. If you want something more relaxed and less structured, like lessons just for fun, then go for that! A good tutor will adjust their lesson plans to your needs. Also take into account your attention span. If you can't focus after an hour of studying, don't make your sessions longer than that. There's nothing wrong with that either! Taking breaks is healthy, especially for something that you can be new at.

Details

Depending on the level of German i will be teaching the student, my rates can start as low as $20/hr. For the moment I am able to teach basic vocabulary all the way up to intermediate and some advanced grammar.
