About John

Depending on your skill level and interests, we start with a song or style/technique that you want to learn, which keeps the interest high and focused, and through to process, we'll work on building techniques such as right-hand & left-hand, wrist, fingers, and thumb mobility, comfort and independance. Learn to play with a metronome, working on chords, scales, and the “Nashville” number system to advance your knowledge, as well as on string-bending, vibrato, and playing with dynamics, on acoustic & electric* guitars, bass, and/or slide guitar.

I enjoy working with students of all levels and ages, teaching and supporting the creative process with the tools and techniques to help develop a student’s own style and musical ideas.

* For more advanced electric students - I can also help develop and refine your “sound and tone”; by consulting on the right instrument and/or equipment (amps, guitars, effects, and anything that you need/want to help create the sound you’re hearing in your head).

About the lesson

My teaching style starts with songs that the student wants to learn while building and working on playing techniques and theory in the process. As well, I record and send a summary of each zoom lesson so that you can more easily practice between lessons.

I enjoy working with students of all ages and levels, teaching and supporting the creative process with the tools and techniques to develop a students’ own creative musical ideas in many styles including rock, blues, folk, county, jazz, R&B, soul, funk, and reggae.

30-minute lesson $30

45-minute lesson $40

Hour lesson $50

Depending on your distance from me, I do make house calls with an additional $20-$50 travel fee.
