About Dustin

After spending 5 years touring the US and beyond as a solo artist and with his bands, Dustin has played SXSW, CMJ Music Marathon, Folk Alliance International, TreeFort Music Fest, The House of Blues, and Red Rocks Amphitheater. He has shared the stage with Iron & Wine, Andrew McMahon, Nathaniel Rateliff, Langhorne Slim, Young The Giant, Cake, Hey Marseilles, Jon Foreman, Gregory Alan Isakov, Shook Twins, Edward Sharpe. Dustin has been featured on NPR, CBS Radio, SoFar Sounds, Jam In The Van, Consequence of Sound, Daytrotter, & PopMatters.

Because of these experiences, I am able to offer lessons that prepare each student for real world performances.

I love music and the ability to mentor others to the moment of creation. There is nothing like having learned a song and the pride you feel from performing it for the enjoyment of others.

It all began in my early 20's when a roommate wanted to learn to play his guitar. Before I knew it, I was teaching him and all of this friends. From there, I have taught students between touring with my bands for the past 20 years on and off.

Classical Competition Vocal Training, 100+ hours of Collegiate Opera performance and vocal training, played guitar professionally on and off stage for 25+ years, collaborated with dozens of artists in songwriting, led songwriter workshops, 5+ years experience teaching music lessons, toured the US and beyond with multiple bands, played drums for 4+ band, sat in with top-knotch musicians, and toured the country as a mutli-instrumentalists playing drums, mandolin, trumpet, harmonica, guitar, piano, and vocals.

About the lesson

The first step is to define exactly what the student would like to learn.

Next, we create a customized strategy for the student based on our time together and the time the student has to dedicate to practice.

With a beginner level student, we will start with the foundations such as correct posture and caring for your instrument.

As an advanced student, we will hop right into the challenge the student is facing and the goal the student has through lessons.

I teach acoustic/rythym guitar (Beginner to Advanced), music theory (Beginner to Intermediate), songwriting in 6 styles (Beginner to Advanced), Piano (Beginner to Intermediate), Mandolin (Beginner

I have worked with children (age 8 to 18) in a rock band setting as well as one-on-one lessons. I've also worked with beginner stage adults and intermediate musicians.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Please think through what you are interestesd in. Some suggestions:

"I want to learn my favorite songs."

"I want to write a song."

"I want to be able to speak about music through language."

"I want to learn how to feel the music and play with others."

Perfect! My daughter has had 2 lessons and has learned more in those 2 lessons than 2 months worth elsewhere. She is already playing a song! Dustin is patient, motivating and calming and explains everything in a way she can retain it all. We are thrilled so far and excited to see where she is in a few more weeks!
