About Daniel

Hi! My name is Dan and I offer guitar, ear training, songwriting, recording, and production lessons. Folks, look no further because this is a very affordable rate compared to most other music teacher postings. I've been teaching lessons for about three years since I graduated from college with a degree in music and psychology. My college education gave me experience playing all types of guitar including rock, jazz, funk, classical, fingerstyle, bluegrass, folk, and more. I teach all skill levels but I specialize with beginners and intermediate players. I have extensive experience working with kids in both musical and non-musical settings.

My lessons are always catered to the student's desires. It's important to me that my lessons are FUN to the student. So, I teach students important level-appropriate techniques and I also make time for whatever the student wants to learn. For guitarists, that can include dissecting and learning their favorite song, solo, or style. I use visual guides, charts, and other methods to help aid student learning. I especially love jamming with students and helping them find their unique improvisational style!

A piece of advice:

When hiring a new guitar teacher, even if it's not me, make sure you get someone who legitimately loves to teach, not someone who just does it for the money. I think my affordable rate reflects exactly that. This work is hardly a job for me, it's a pleasure.

I got started teaching in my senior year of college to some close friends. We would hang out and I would casually teach them some stuff about guitar. When I saw that they were legitimately improving their playing, I decided to start taking teaching seriously. I've been taking on real students for about 2 years now. I love to teach!

About the lesson

First, we do a 10-15 minute informational phone call where we learn a bit more about each other. I tell you about my teaching style and you tell me about what you're looking for in a teacher. If it's a good fit, we schedule our first lesson. During lessons, I teach level-appropriate techniques and also whatever the student wants to learn. I use visual aids to help. These include chord charts, tablature, and other guides.

Students of all sorts of skills and genres. I specialize with beginners and intermediate musicians, but have taught some more advanced players as well. I currently have students that play folk, metal, rock, jazz, and singer/songwriters hoping to improve their craft. I have absolutely no preference for teaching any certain genre and am comfortable in teaching a variety of different styles because I had the privilage of studying so many in college.

Get someone who legitimately loves to teach, not someone who just does it for the money. I think my affordable rate reflects exactly that. This work is hardly a job for me, it's a pleasure.
