About Scott

PLEASE NOTE: I teach in-person guitar lessons out of my home in Cranston, RI. I do not offer online lessons at this time.

About me:

I am a graduate of URI and hold 2 teaching certificates and have been teaching since 2001. I've taught 200+ students in the state over the last 20 years.

I teach all different levels of students. My primary genres are rock, blues, fusion, classical and jazz. I don't play flamenco or bluegrass. I can teach beginner country as well.

My clients appreciate that the lessons are open-ended. We can work on whatever you want, I don't force an agenda on anyone. I teach a lot of songs but we can also do music theory, improvisation, note reading, songwriting or whatever else you're interested in.

My clients have told me that I'm patient and have a good sense of humor as well as a lot of skill on the instrument.

Normal fees are $50/hr, $38/45 mins, $25/30 mins. You get 20% off of your first four lessons as an introductory offer so the price for the first month would be $42/hr, $32/45 mins, $20/30 mins.

I landed my first job in a music store when I was 20.

I am a graduate of URI and hold two teaching certificates. I have worked as a private guitar instructor at URI’s prepatory program, Chris B’s Music in Cranston, Main Street Music in East Greenwich, and in my own private studio. I was lead teacher and ensemble director for group guitar programs at Father John V. Doyle Middle School in Coventry and at Sweet Peas Village preschool in East Greenwich, RI. I have been playing the guitar for 30 years and began teaching in 2001.

About the lesson

Ask questions to assess their interests and disinterests then tailor a specific plan for their success.

All ages, skill levels and backgrounds.

Hire someone that you are sure has the skills that you are hoping to learn. It doesn't benefit you to study with anyone who can't create the types of sounds that you want to create. On my website I have many videos covering all different styles of music and playing.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It's good to have at least a vague idea of where your main interests lie and what your goals are. The more specific you can get, the better I can tailor the lessons to your needs.

For children:

In my experience, children age 8 and below should not take lessons for longer than 30mins.

Children of age 9-14 can handle 45 minutes and some can even handle an hour.
