About Ricky
I started learning classical guitar at age 55 and I am having the best time of my life. I practice 2 to 3 hours every day. I start with the basics of how to play classical guitar and how to read sheet music. I use the keyboard, xylophone, accordion and other percussion instruments to explain music notes and music theory to assist the students better understand these abstract ideas. My piano teacher is Leah Ginzburg and you may view her videos on YouTube, my classical guitar teacher is Michael Fincken of New World Music Center in Baldwin. And I am enrolled with the Caifornia Music Conservatory with the renowned composer Victor M. Barba as my teacher. He is teaching me how to compose music on piano and guitar.
I worked 10 years as a DJ and 5 years as an artist promoter and artist representative. I always wanted to learn keyboard and guitar and I finally did it in my 50's.
I wanted to learn the basics of music to be able to explain to the arrangers how I want my songs to sound.
I practice classical guitar every day for 2 to 3 hours and keyboard for 90 minutes.
I have worked as a teaching assistant in the public schools for 15 years and I understand well the learning process of children and young adults.
I have taken classes for drums and piano at Guitar Center. I have taken classes for classical guitar and violin at the New World Music Center in Baldwin. And presently, I am enrolled with the California Music Conservatory with the renowned composer Victor M. Barba as my teacher. He is teaching me music composition for piano and guitar. Finally, I am working with Benny Chaw of beenychaw.com to arrange my original songs to music and record them professionally.

First, an introductory meeting to find out more about the new student's musical background and what is their goal for learning classical guitar. The new student needs to feel comfortable with me and I need to make sure I will be a suitable teacher for them.
In May 2019, I created a classical music program to teach children classical music via keyboard and classical guitar. And to teach them how to read music. I had 18 students enrolled in this program but lately due to the pandemic only 6 have remained. I do the classes ourside in the yard to promote social distance. Many my students have been children ages 5 to 15 years old.
Mian advice is that they must ask themselves if they are really going to be dedicated to the practice. At least 20 minutes per day hopefully more is better and if they feel they can not do this then it is better for them not to start or at least I am not the teacher best for them.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out

I understand our economic crisis due to the pandemic, hence, I am flexiable to work with the budget of the new student and if the student travels to my residence in Freeport the fee is less.
