About James

I am a Berklee graduate with years of teaching experience. I was a tutor at Berklee. After College I taught music at a primary school from kindergarten to 8th grade. I am currently gigging with a band as well as my own solo acoustic act. I enjoy helping people develop a deeper relationship to music. This relationship is nurtured through practice and passion. Both are necessary to becoming the musician you would like to be. Inspiring that in my students is the best part of teaching.

Teaching is something that I naturally do. Every student is different, and finding that spark that gets that student to want to play the instrument always my main goal. Music is a great discipline and practice. It is truly a joy to offer that to people.

I was a tutor at Berklee College of music and worked as a elementary and middle school teacher after graduating. I have been teaching ever since.

I have extensive experience in both playing music and teaching. I studied guitar at Berklee College of Music from 2012-2015. I was a tutor at Berklee as well so my knowledge of theory and ear training is very expansive. My first job after college was teaching music at a private elementary school. Since moving to Nashville I have gigged around town and have played writers rounds. Since being in Nashville I have taught many students.

About the lesson

I usually will ask my students what their goals are in order to best serve the student. If the student would like to learn the fundamentals of solid guitar technique, we would learn modes, chords, arpeggios, along with repertoire. If the student wants to be able to strum chords and sing, then we would begin with chord shapes and strumming patterns etc. Every student is different and I like to bring out the specific strengths in my students.

I have worked with all kinds of students from 5 year olds to 45 year old doctors who are getting back into guitar. I've worked with beginners and advanced players.
