About EDWARD (Ed)

My music history:

I am a music major from CSUN. I started playing guitar when I was nine years old. I took private lessons right away until I began learning by ear. I spent the rest of my childhood by playing in bands, finally playing with the best band out, the Novelles, a Happening. We recorded an album in 1968 which wasn't released until 2005 and again in 2007 on Radioactive label. We haven't seen one cent. As for Ed Benson, he enrolled at Los Angeles Valley College near the age of 33. He learned a lot about music composition and classical guitar. I took classical guitar lessons my entire time at Los Angeles Valley College with Robert Mayer, the instructor. I also took a commercial music technique class to develop my own writing skills. I pursued vocal lessons twice, once while in the Novelles (age 16) then for over a year with Volcal Dynamics (when I was 33). When I graduated to CSUN I continued my studies in music composition and guitar by a private instructor at California State University at Northridge. I continue to play guitar I especially like the keyboard because they are easier to do music analysis on.

I figure if you love doing something then you should do it as much as you can ... I mean like, why not? It would be foolish to slave away at something you don't like because your life would be miserable, and so would you.

I'm getting starting now. Used to give lessons when I was in college.

Took music lessons myself and went to college as a Music Composition major, instrument of choice: classical guitar.

About the lesson

Teach them what they want to know, but emphasize reading. Let them know know the secrets of harmony, otherwise, just play it by ear. Have fun while you're learning.
