About Chris

Thoughtful instruction that is custom tailored to each student's abilities and goals. I'm a Berklee College of Music Graduate who taught at the college level before starting a private teaching studio in 2007. I'm proud to have a large roster of students who have started with me in elementary school and remained with me as passionate students until high school graduation and beyond.

There is no greater joy than coaching an enthusiastic guitarist through their own discovery of ability, understanding and fun.

As a guitarist, I have traveled the world with a Capitol Records' artist, performed in the largest arenas, and recorded in legendary studios. As a composer, I've placed over 100 music cues on over a dozen TV shows. Through it all, teaching guitar and interacting with excited, engaged students remains my passion.

I realized while still in music school that I had an ability and patience to break down the language of music and guitar in a way that new and developing instrumentalists could disseminate easily.

Bachelor of Music degree from the Berklee College of Music (1996-2000)

Adjunct faculty (Guitar Instruction) at Sierra Nevada College (2002-2005)

Squan Guitar (Private guitar instruction) 2006-present

About the lesson

Assess the student's ability and goals.

Gain understanding of the student's music taste and genre of choice.

Develop a course of study custom tailored to their ability and goals.

Embed necessary instruction within the framework of the student's music of choice so that progress is achieved in a fun and engaging way.

I have had success with with highly engaged 2nd graders as well as businessmen who needed an outlet. Ultimately, I work with enthusiastic people who truly desire even the most basic mastery of the language of guitar.

Always ask what the teacher will do for YOU. It is so easy to deliver one-size-fits-all lessons but the most important aspect of guitar instruction is keeping the student excited and engaged. The responsibility falls on the teacher to design courses of study that keep the student engaged while teaching the necessary skills. Everyone learns differently and responds to coaching differently.

The greatest moment is always when I realize in the first few minutes of a session that the student has been PLAYING their guitar all week. It usually only take a minute or two.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Do you want to play guitar? or do you love the idea of playing guitar? You have to have the desire to put in the time on your own. No one progresses at a lesson. You improve in all of the hours and days in between lessons.
