About JD

I picked up a guitar when I was 13 and never put it down. Personally, I'm a Family man, Husband, and Father of 2 wonderful kids. I've played in solo and band settings all my life. I currently play for New Community Church and Upper Room Dallas. I love people and seeing them meet their personal goals.

Did I mention I work at Guitar Center Part time...

1. I've played for over 20 years

2. Teaching for 10 years ages 10 and up

3. I have transportation and "meetup" rooms if needed.

Love being around the music culture, passionate, and enjoy being able to meet new people along with helping them reach their goals.

People at church started asking me to teach them, I first didn't charge but they gave me money out of charity. I then developed a beginner & intermediate level guitar program that has proven to work. Whether just starting out or you have some experience playing, I can provide growth.

I had two guitar instructors, one who is well known in the blues and roots genre - Will Derryberry.

In addition, I've played in church bands in Northern California and Southern. I've also played in Blues bands and rock.

About the lesson

Learn their likes - genre of music, any songs in particular they want to learn. But 1st must learn the basics of finger positioning, memorization of notes on each string, and correct picking.

Ages 10 and UP

Dedication to the craft is key, practicing when no one is looking or watching. It's like learning another language - at first can be challenging but in the end, beautiful.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What genre of music do you want to play? Do I want to learn acoustic or electric guitar? How many times a week/month should I have lessons? How often should I practice?
