About Kelly

I offer both guitar and ukulele lessons in one sitting. Ukulele is a stepping stone to guitar and I find going from beginner to guitar is infinitely easier when you're playing a full ukulele song in the first 20 minutes. I provide both instruments for my unique strategy that yields faster results.

I enjoy results, just like the student above all else. If lessons are fun but don't yield results, the musician won't be satisfied so I make it a priority to enjoy the results just as much as the fun along the way.

I started by volunteering teaching guitar to underprivileged kids with New York Cares organization and fell in love with teaching.

I have 3 years of school band, and 10 years experience in both a recreational and professional setting.

About the lesson

It's all about the musician. Where they're at, and what they want to do with music, so I start with a basic assement and create an individualized plan to help the student achieve their goals.

I've taught friends and family of all ages and elementary age kids via New York Cares program.

I'm sure all of these teachers are well-qualified and knowledgeable, but the most effective way to learn is to get a teacher with similar sensibilities to you. Reading over these interview answers is a good way to begin to gauge that.

Most recently I was working with a student who loved Taylor Swift but she felt she would never be able to play guitar like Taylor does. So we worked on "You Belong With Me" and she got it one session, much faster than she thought she would. It was mutually rewarding.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Be sure you can articulate your goals with music, and if say your goal is to learn classical guitar, make sure to ask if that's their background and how long they estimate it will take to get there based on your current skill level. It's important that expectations line up with results.
