About Blake

Have you ever watched someone on Youtube, Tik Tok, or maybe even at a live event and you've thought "Man, I'd give anything to play like that!"?

I know I have and thats what I want to teach others to do. I want them to get at that stage to where they can pick up a guitar and play what they hear and feel inside.

I love seeing people improve. Seeing someone go from not knowing how to tune the guitar to playing whatever they want is an amazing feeling and accomplishment and I want to be along for the journey.

Years ago, I had someone come to me about teaching and I was reluctant. I always thought "How can I teach someone else when nobody taught me?"

The old proverb is so true when it comes to learning an instrument.

“You give a poor man a fish and you feed him for a day. You teach him to fish and you give him an occupation that will feed him for a lifetime.” (Chinese proverb.)

I've been playing for over 15 years. I've played professionally and can play over 9 instruments. Self taught on all of them. I'm proof that if you stick with something, that you can learn whatever instrument you want. If you fight through building calluses, you'll be able to play so much more and it will become enjoyable and second nature.

About the lesson

When it comes to guitar, people are at different stages. Some want to hop in and learn their favorite songs; others want to be able to play by ear and improv.

The best way to help someone is to first see what stage they are at and where they want to take their playing.

I've worked with beginners and I've worked with intermediate players that want to break out of the "Reading tabs, watching tutorials" box and start playing on their own.

There's a difference in being able to read tabs and copy someone from a tutorial and sitting down and learning how to improvise and learn something by ear.

If I could give someone some advice, it would be to stick to it and listen to your teacher. We;ve all been there and all we want is to see you improve in your playing.
