About Allan
I'm an Oakland based musician, composer and producer with over 40 years of experience in both live and recording environments. I offer lessons on piano, bass guitar and 6 string guitar. I have studied classical piano from the age of 7 and have played guitar and bass since the age of 15. I can offer a solid foundation of technique and reading but also like to emphasize that, most importantly, playing music should be fun and fulfilling.
The most fun thing about teaching is tailoring an individual lesson plan for each student. Working with students to figure out what they'd like to achieve through music is a priority. Whether it's playing in a band/ensemble, solo or at home to relax I can help the student get there. I am comfortable teaching a variety of styles and levels and understand that not everyone wants to play professionally but if they do, that's great too. Music should be fun with little accomplishments along the way.
Bachelor of Arts Music, San Francisco State University.
Over 40 years of piano, guitar and bass performance experience.
Formal training in piano performance, music theory, composition and orchestration.
Extensive knowledge of classical, jazz and popular music styles and literature.
Participated in several performance tours across the US.

Allan really makes learning an instrument fun and has a ton of patience. He tailors his lessons to the individual and really explains things in a way that makes sense. I look forward to my piano lesson every week.
Allan was able to teach both me and my 7 year old son. He was patient and gentle and he knows his stuff ! My son is shy and can be hard to teach knew things but Allan was great at making him feel comfortable.
