About Son

My goal is to be the best listener I can be for each student and to keep an open mind. With this premise, I learn about each student's skillsets (since every person learns differently) and from there create custom lesson plans that can best help them achieve their goals, whether it's learning the bass, guitar or mixing and writing music.

Because I've played with so many musicians and have recorded for decades, I've built a solid foundation to best help each individual student learn in their own unique way, while instilling solid fundamentals so as they play their instrument or mix music correctly and with more confidence.

I love watching the smiles on peoples' faces when they learn something new or break through something they've been stuck on for weeks or months. The excitement and elation is the best part of teaching. :-)

I've performed for 30 years on guitar and 25 years on bass guitar. I took 2 years of private jazz guitar lessons, 5 years of private classical piano lessons from 7-12 years old, 4 years of private drumset lessons from age 14-18. For the last 10 years, I've been mixing and recording original music, landing songs on A&E and other networks.

I studied the Berklee Method for Jazz Guitar as well as sight-singing, learning all the basic genres: jazz, blues, rock, country, Latin and reggae. I've also performed thousands of shows, recorded 6 albums and released 30 singles over the span of 25 years.

I've taught children from age 12-18 and adults of all ages.

About the lesson

I first ask them what kind of music they want to learn and how much time they have to practice. From there, I can determine what custom lesson plans I can create for them, then I work with the fundamentals of the bass or guitar (or mixing music) and set up the foundations for a practice regime.

Details

For those coming to me: I charge $40 for 30 minutes, and $75 for an hour. If a month of lessons is paid ahead of time, I will deduct $10 for 30 minute monthly lessons and $20 for $75 monthly lessons.

For those I travel to: I charge $50 for 30 minutes, and $85 for an hour. If a month of lessons is paid ahead of time, I will deduct $10 for 30 minute monthly lessons and $20 for $85 monthly lessons.
