About Susan

My teaching approach:

Classical method approach to acoustic guitar, to include music reading, theory, ear training and sight singing (to assist in recognizing intervals and matching pitch). Guitar Duo Classes, as well as Private Instruction, are available. The "duo" class is a half hour per week, and sessions run monthly. Private lessons are a half hour weekly.

My influences are:

Music of the 60s, 70s, 80s, particularly blues style.

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays - from 1:00pm to 9:00pm.

Guitar Techniques:

Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Guidance In Equipment Selection

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

Size the student for the correct instrument. Introduce a basic playing skill or position and have the student attempt. Discuss beginning music-reading basics to see if the student has any prior knowledge of note/rhythm reading.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

Instrument tuning, then a brief warm-up exercise or piece. A technique exercise, then review of assigned practice pieces. Introduction of a new concept or new piece of music. Review of repertoire and performance skills.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

A student who is interested in learning, understands that mastery of guitar requires daily practice and patience, and a willingness to play and perform with other students.
