About Brandon

My name is Brandon Auerbach and I am a 16-year-old guitarist/bassist currently living in Staten Island, NY. Originally from Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn, NY, I have always been a passionate musician. It is my goal to one day become the kind of top caliber performer you'd expect to see on the stages of Broadway and the concert halls of Madison Square Garden, rocking out for all my future fans. I have developed many idols that I now admire and look up to, venerable performers such as Slash of Guns n' Roses, Eddie Van Halen of Van Halen, Brian May of Queen, Ace Frehley of Kiss, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Geddy Lee of Rush, and many more! These artists are just some of those that have inspired me to learn guitar. I began playing guitar and taking lessons since I was 10-years-old and constantly seek to improve my ever-growing skill set. I am currently the lead guitarist of a popular teenage rock band on Staten Island known as Grounded4Life. My band has performed many places all over the Tri-State area. Some places we have performed include the Bitter End in NYC, Shepard Park in Lake George, Hershey Park in PA, Debonair Music Hall in NJ, and many more! My band has also been featured on New York 1 in a segment on real kids who rock. Over time, after participating in many school bands, I have taught myself how to play the bass (both electric and upright). Although I am raised listening to and playing primarily classic rock, I play and read music of all styles, as I am a member of other orchestras and ensembles such as my school Jazz Band and Symphonic Band, in which we play Level VI music and participate in NYSSMA every year. I have only been playing for about 6 years, however, I am currently studying college-level music theory both in my own personal lessons and in school, which qualifies me to give lessons to students of all ages and levels of experience. My service stands out because of my age and amount of experience I have with performing, which allows me to relate to my student on a personal level. Therefore, I hope that you can think of me for your next lesson!

I love working with people and sharing my love and passion for music with others. Music is one of the greatest things in the world, and to spread the joy it brings me with someone else looking to learn is something that touches me personally. The feeling of performing on stage and bringing happiness to the people watching is truly amazing. The unique language of music speaks to us all in different ways and it will always be a huge part of my life. Sharing that gift with others helps to spread that language and the joy of music.

I have been playing guitar for 6 years and bass for 4 years, and have been performing in a band of my own for about 4 years now, as well as participating in my school Jazz Band and Symphonic Band since I have been in High School, which means I have some experience with performing. I am currently studying college-level music theory both in school and in my own private lessons, which qualifies me to work with students of all levels of experience.

About the lesson

It depends on the level of experience, the type of guitar/bass that the student is using (either acoustic or electric), and genre of music that the student wants to learn and work around. For beginners, I will always start out with teaching them the string names, how to tune, notes of the guitar or bass, getting to know the neck and makeup of the instrument, and work up to playing basic chords and beginners songs. For more advanced students, we will focus on multiple musical concepts, music theory, the makeup of chords and scales, reading music, songwriting, soloing/improvisation, and playing in different styles. For students of all levels, however, I will typically start out with getting to know them and their style first and work on improving their strengths and weaknesses so that they may become successful.

I advise a student to hire a teacher that seems right for them. They should hire a teacher in which they will feel comfortable around and bond with, both through music and on a personal level. This, I believe, is the most effective way for a student to learn.

Some things that students should think through before talking to teachers about their needs is what their goal that they want to reach as a guitarist/bassist is, what type of music they would like to work around, who their influences are, and possibly what exactly they would like to learn by the next lesson.

I base my prices off of my availability, my level of experience, whether or not I have to travel to my student or not, and how many clients I have active. I consider myself to be a very busy person with all of the after-school activities I take part in, but will always find time to share my knowledge with someone willing to learn. It is not all about the money for me, so I am very flexible when it comes to pricing! What is most important to me is that the student is dedicated and wants to learn and has the passion to do so.
