About Dr Brett

Dr. Brett Floyd is a music educator who is passionate about seeing his students succeed. With over twenty years of teaching experience, Dr. Floyd has worked with students of every age and ability.

I started teaching in my hometown of Mooresville, Indiana. In high school, I worked at our local music store, and the owner offered me a teaching position. I taught my first guitar lesson, loved it, and haven't stopped.

I have my Bachelor's degree in Music Performance from Indiana University, my Master's degree in Music Performance from the University of South Carolina, and my Doctorate in Music Performance from the University of South Carolina.

Twenty years of guitar teaching experience and a decade performing as a professional concert/recording artist has given me the ability to meet a student where they are and help them reach their musical goals.

About the lesson

I focus on only the essential aspects of playing the guitar at first, with the goal of playing their first piece of music as soon as possible. This enables a student to experience early success with their instrument and encourages them to develop practice habits build success.

I have worked with students as early as six years old to students learning guitar in their retirement years.

Find someone who not only is a quality performer but also a good teacher. Finding a teacher you enjoy spending time with is also very important. A good teacher should be a role model the student looks up to.

As I graduated with my Doctorate in Music this year, a former student recognized me at my graduation ceremony. I taught her when she was about six years old, and now she was in high school. She told me that she is now playing classical guitar and violin and that her love of music all started in our lessons together many years ago. This is why I am a teacher; I love using music to make a positive difference in people's lives.
