About Laurence

The tenet of my model is to do good work. For example, I formed music-related ventures which tend to benefit not just Musician's, but people in general. I set up mobile music cafés in New York and Washington, DC where artists perform and folks get to sit, enjoy music and eat for free. (No kidding).

Specifically here, now that I am teaching, I believe there are few gifts greater than that of music. Listening is cool enough. But knowing how to create music is a whole other wonderful level. Teaching it to others is to participate correctly in the universe. (But that's a whole other conversation. Ha)

About the lesson

Get to know them to see where they're head is. Discover their skill level. Then find out what they want out of the experience of learning. Some want to get into theory, for example. Others may not care about that so much and want to be able to play their favorite songs more quickly. Some may benefit from a more formal curriculum; while others are more engaged by a casual style of teaching. What's important is to reach the student before teaching the student. Otherwise, knowledge is wasted.
