About Carson N

I have always loved history, to me its more than dates and dead people. History is the story of humanity, where we come from, how we got to where we are, and where we are going. I earned my B.A. in History from George Fox University and recently earned my M.A. in History from Liberty University. I talk history most days, to historians or history buffs or casual interested people. My goal in tutoring is not to just help my students memorize the facts, yet to help them understand the history they are learning about and instill in them a appreciation for history. My students will be able to critically think about history, understand the key themes of the era they are learning about, and come away with an appreciation for history that hopefully leads to them to continue building their interest in history whether that be watching Youtube channels dedicated to history or going on to study history at the college level.

About the lesson

I would have the student tell me what history he is learning, where the class is at. I would then ask if there is something confusing or that the student just does not understand and I would help them in those areas. I would have the student make flashcards of the people, important dates, themes, and key facts from the chapters they are studying to review for quizzes and tests. I would also utilize Youtube as there are many fine history channels that would add to the learning.

I would look for a teacher who has a passion for teaching history. A teacher who won't just help the student pass the test and move on, yet also help the student appreciate history. The student does not have to love history after working with the teacher, though when and if the student is doing their own research into history that interests them then it is a win for the teacher.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I believe that students should talk to teachers about their learning needs. The student is the only person who knows what they want, it is up to the teacher to help them acquire the skills and the learning to help the student reach their goals.
