About Emily
My name is Emily Wingfield and I am currently studying History and Secondary Education at Arcadia University with an expected B.A. in History. I have a demonstrated ability to work with children in both academic and non-academic settings. I intend on bringing my experience and passion to a career teaching at the secondary education level with a focus in History as well as a career in DEI work within the education sector.
For me, working in education is one of the most rewarding things that someone can do. I try my hardest to go through life helping others and I believe that education is one of the ways to do that. I am passionate about the importance of education and its ability to foster growth both individually and collectively. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student grow both academically and as a human being overall when working with them and that is precisely what I enjoy the most about my work.
Although I have not technically secured an official teaching job, I am currently an undergraduate college student studying to enter the field of education. As mentioned, I have a multitude of experience working with children in both academic and non-academic settings. Furthermore, I am a strong believer in the importance of education and believe that these skills will prove helpful to me in tutoring.
I have experience with Middle and High School level History and English courses, having graduated from my school with a 3.9 GPA. I am currently in my third year of college and earned Dean's List all 4 first semesters of college. I am currently studying History and Secondary Education.
In terms of work experience, I have much experience working in childcare. For the past 3 years I have been a camp counselor at my local YMCA, working with children between the ages of 5 and 13. In Spring 2020, I worked at the Allegheny Center Alliance Church's After School Place, conducting 1 on 1 tutoring sessions with student's in 1st through 5th Grade. I worked alongside their classroom teachers to develop tutoring sessions that were adapted to each individual student's learning style to ensure students got the most out of the sessions. In the beginning of Fall 2020, I worked in a Learning Center at another YMCA, helping students adapt and conduct their virtual learning experiences.

When working with students, I like to start by establishing both short term goals and long term goals for both of us. Tutoring is a two-way street, both me and the students will put in the necessary work to reach those goals, and I believe establishing them early on is crucial. I also like to spend time to get to know my students as human beings. Social-emotional learning is vital to support academic success, and I believe that through getting to know my students I am better equipped to support them in their studies.

Details
I have a starting rate of $20/hour for my tutoring sessions. As the number of subjects increases, the rate increases accordingly, going up $5 per subject (For example, If I were tutoring a student in two subjects, the rate would be $25/hour).
Rates are subject to change once I gain more experience and earn teaching certification. Rates are also open for negotiation.
