About Richard

I have been training and riding performance and show horses since I was 7 years old. I am skilled in the area of Western Riding, barrel racing, and in the areas of pleasure riding, trail riding, some English riding and rider training in those areas as well as horse training in those areas. I am specialized in starting horses, and finishing them in the above areas. I am well known for soft hands and teaching the horse and rider to work off of legs alot to create a better horse to rider partnership.

I love working with an animal and taking time to communiucate with them with soft hands, and techniques that ensure they retain as long as possible. I love seeing a animal have a breakthrough. I also love working with riders and seeing them compete, overcome fears, ease anxiety with riding, or find peace through riding.

I have ridden since I was 7 years old on ranch horses, show horses, young horses, starting horses, and competition. I have attended multiple trainings for trail, pleasure, ranch horse, and rodeo events that create my knowledge to be widespread in the area of horsemanship and I am as well always still expanding knowledge so I can better myself as a teacher, and rider.

About the lesson

I like to sit down and get to know the student. I like to know a clear idea of the students goals, as well as if they have any fears so we can address them early and work towards success. Depending on the age or level of the student I like to teach the student how to have ground work done with their horse to create a more solid bond of communication. Many people miss this step and expect to understand their horse in a matter of just getting on and riding. I like to teach the student to watch for the ques of the horse, and how to listen to their horse when needed and how to detect those ques. Teaching a student to have soft hands and be patient is at most importance.

Young students to Adult students

Young horses to Adult aged horses

Look for someone patient, and kind. Look for someone soft on a horses mouth, but someone that knows how to gain authority through trust building with the horse. Look for someone that will not shout but coach and will be soft with both horse, and rider while keeping all safety in mind.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are my goals?

What am I scared of?

How long am I willing to take to become an expert?
