About Kenneth
We teach traditional, Korean martial art. It is a mixed martial art in that there are multiple styles and origins represented in our system, but not in the cage-fighting MMA sense of the word.
We work with people where they are at the moment, and help them become better.
I enjoy the look on people's faces when they do something that they didn't think they could. It happens a lot; sometimes quickly, and sometimes after weeks or months of practice.
Teaching is a requirement for advanced martial art students. I discovered that I had a knack for it, and decided to move back to my hometown and open a school.
I have a degree in Secondary Education from Ball State University, a Third Degree Black Belt in Kuk Sool Won, attend yearly school-owner seminars at the World Kuk Sool Association headquarters in Texas, and participate in semi-annual seminars and workshops for WKSA Blackbelts.

We have a three-class introductory course that all new students take. Students wear comfortable clothing, and the lesson is either private or taken with other new students.
Our goal is to introduce martial art training, and specifically Kuk Sool Won, in a comfortable, relaxed environment.
Young, old, male, female, fat, thin.
I've had luck with autistic and oppositional/defiant children. If a student wants to learn, then I can teach them.
The martial art style doesn't matter nearly as much as the climate cultivated by the owner of the school. Discipline is important, but not the development of a leadership cult.
Visit the school, watch the interaction between students and instructors. Are questions tolerated? Are students allowed to explore and figure things out for themselves? Is discipline encouraged or required to satisfy the instructor's ego?
I recently had a mother tell me that her daughter came home after a challenging class and declared, "Mom, I've found my people." That was really good to hear.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Questions for yourself:
Why do I want to learn martial arts?
Am I willing to change?
Do I trust this person (the instructor) to work with me when I am vulnerable?
Am I looking for something to do for a year or so, or something to do, and keep learning my entire life?
Questions to ask Instructors:
Is it possible to make up classes if I am ill or on vacation?
Is tournament participation mandatory?
May I see the syllabus for your Blackbelt course?
If I am injured, can drills or exercises be modified?
