About Jessie

My service is from the perspective of a fellow student who understands the difficulties in learning math and other subject areas and has struggled themselves and succeeded. I have taken accelerated math courses since the beginning of middles school and never earned lower than an A-minus for any semester since then. I have a 4.0 GPA, but in elementary school had a lot of trouble with math, and gained a lot of help from teachers to which I am quite thankful. I have also had a lot of experience with kids, including babysitting, volunteering at camps, and working in a religious school classroom.

I enjoy helping other people understand concepts in a way which is pertinent to their lives. The moment where realization dawns on a student's face is so rewarding to me, and I love finding ways to relate math to the student's life.

I started teaching at my local religious school, in a volunteer capacity.

I have worked as a religious school teacher for the past year, and have also received training to work as a junior counselor at a camp. I have completed math levels through Precalculus Accelerated.

About the lesson

My typical process is to meet the student over a platform where we can talk face-to-face, discuss what their goals are and why they want to improve, and create a list of subjects they would like to work on.

I have worked with 4th and 5th graders, as well as high school students.

I would look for a teacher that can identify what you want to get out of your math journey and connect what you are doing to things in your life. I would also look for someone who will not just give you the answers, but guide you through the process in the hope that you can learn to do problems yourself.

A recent event I am fond of was the play that the 4th and 5th-grade class which I assistant teach put on. They were remarkable in learning their lines, getting their props organized, and adding their own flairs to their characters, and I very much enjoyed helping them find costumes and memorize lines, as well as blocking. They were very proud after their performance, as were the other teacher and I.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think that a student should think through what kind of teaching style works best for them- do they learn better through watching others perform problems or doing them themselves, etc. I would also think about specific examples of problems you do not understand and bring these to the teacher's attention so you can work through them together.

My standard price is 30 dollars an hour, depending on the age of the student (usually less for younger students) and the difficulty of their math course or goals.
