About Kabita

I am a liberal arts student at St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland. I study Language, Philosophy, Mathematics, Literature, and Science under the Great Books curriculum. I currently finished my 3 year Ancient Greek and French language clas. I appreciate that I am part of a curriculum in St. John's that highly emphasizes small discussion based classes. Apart from the academics, it has helped me learn the value of a tutor-student relationship.

I worked as an adult literacy intern in a non-profit organization last summer. My role was to research & offer improved, increased, and digital reading materials for adult literacy students (high interest/low level materials for instruction, practice, preparation, and pleasure); help adult learners with special needs (basic English reading, writing, speaking, and listening).

My tutor training for ESL and Basic Literacy helped me be proficient in components of literacy, comprehension, interpretation, summarization, and identification.

I also worked as a mathematics assistant in my freshman year to help my friends/ students with mathematics outside classes. Algebra is my strong suit and I love geometry too! I love Maths. I am currently reading astronomy and conic sections in my sophomore year.

I am hopeful that my education and experiences would be very helpful while tutoring you.

I can also help you with any of your homework except Math and English! :)

I have always loved learning. I enjoy tutoring because it helps me learn alongside my students. I find tutoring very interesting because learning alongside the students always creates a sense of wonder in me. I try to channel this sense of wonder and feeling of pleasure in my students in the process of learning. :)

Last summer, I actually felt this sense of wonder when I taught adult learners to write their names and their grandchildren's name. Cominf from a developing country, where children do not get to read and write properly, I understand the importance of education. I worked with the children living in slums and helped them read and write. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life!
