About Cindy

I love working with students of all levels to strengthen their math skills. Together we will review, practice and strengthen the area of math your student is struggling with. I currently work at a high school where I appear in several different math classes a day. I have privately tutored middle school and elementary aged students as well. I am able to work in person or online.

I love being able to make a difference in a child's learning. When they have that moment where the material they were learning was a struggle and it all begins to make sense is a moment I love to see the most.

I began as a substitute at the preschool that my son was attending. From there I found out that being in a classroom was something I enjoyed and had a passion for. My experiences lead me into teaching in the public schools and I have been doing it ever since.

I am currently a Teaching Assistant at King Philip Regional High School. I appear in the classroom to assist students with IEP's and 504's to ensure that they are accessing the curriculum that is best suited for their learning style. Over ther 11 years I have been in this position I have worked with students at each level from preschool to high school.

Additionally, I have privately tutored students in specific content related subjects, worked for a SAT preparation compay, and have been teaching religious school for over 10 years.

About the lesson

Before I work on any type of content related material I get to know the student I am working with. I ask questions about their personal likes and dislikes, about their hobbies, some school related questions, what type of learner they student is, and what signs I should look for if they are struggling. Then I tell them a little about myself and what my expectations during our tutoring sessions will be.

To access what skills needed to be worked on I give a few problems for the student to work on that are grade appropriate. Then we will discuss the outcome and how the student felt while doing the problems. If the school district has outlined areas of concern we will discuss this and make a plan for how we are going to acheive their personal goal and the school's goal.

I have worked with students of all ages and grade levels. In my job I work with students who have special education plans, but also support the rest of the students in the class as well.

I have worked as a one to one to aide with a student with an autism diagnosis.

I have tutored students who return to school from medical leaves, and work to catch them up.

I have tutored for the SAT's.

At religous school I teach 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders

Take the time to find someone you think you will be able to connect with while working with them. They need to know when you are feeling confident and when you are struggling. You need to be able to connect and feel comfortable with the person you are working with in order to acheive your goals.

This year the class of 2021 was able to graduate in person. It was a difficult year educationally for everyone. To be able to share the experience of graduating from High School with their families surrounding them was a priceless experience for each student. I was happy to see them reach this milestone in their education and be able to sahre it with them.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
When you ask for help making sure the teacher knows what type of help is most effective for you.

Communicate where you stopped understanding, or when things become difficult.

Be confident enough to ask a tutor to go over the material again if you still don't understand. A good teacher is willing to reteach and adapt the material so you understand.
