About Bernadette

I taught Algebra 2 through Calculus at Ridge High School for 5 years, earned my Master of Science in Mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and taught Calculus to undergraduate RPI students on a teaching fellowship, and am currently employed by Rutgers as a Part Time Calculus Lecturer for Math 151. I have a BA and MS in math, and did further post graduate work in EECS at Stevens Institute of Technology. I've most recently tutored students in prep for the Calculus AP test who achieved a score of 5.

I love the one-on-one opportunity that tutoring presents, and I love math. I find that the student stays more actively engaged, and I get quite a bit of satisfaction seeing the student's face light up as they suddenly understand difficult concepts.

About the lesson

I typically leverage Kuta software worksheets in the subject that the student is taking, as well as exercises from the prior math topics - to assess areas of weakness. I then teach the current course material as well as spending part of each session in review of weaknesses.

Standard classroom teaching, and most recently home instruction to students who cannot attend school due to 504/IEPs and medical issues.

Find a tutor with a passion for mathematics, and experience teaching. During this COVID lockdown, the safest tutoring was via Zoom, and I have purchased a document camera to make it easy for students to see what I'm writing.
