About Meghana

I am currently a full time, sophomore undergraduate student in Illinois Institute of Technology, aiming to earn a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. As a student there, I often help fellow students with learning different concepts, especially in Maths and the Sciences. I use approaches that are personalized to them, as I believe that every individual has a unique way of learning. Some of my methods have included creating diagrams to explain concepts relating to stoichiometry in Chemistry, using objects around me to show different forces and energy transfers in Physics, and even creating tables and graphs to display patterns in calculus in Maths. I have strong interpersonal and organization skills, I am incredibly detail-oriented and I have a high level of patience. I believe that these skills make me the ideal candidate to be a tutor, whether I have the opportunity to explain addition and subtraction to a child in elementary school, or waves and simple harmonic motion to a high school student.

Between May 2020 and August 2020, I tutored two students in Maths, Ecology, Essay Writing and Chemistry as a part of a volunteer study buddy program organized by Schlumberger. With my students, I ensured that they learnt the material I taught by asking them questions throughout the class, and then assigning homework afterwards.

I graduated from high school in 2019, after being enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.

I am looking forward to this opportunity to educate younger students, as I feel that every individual should have a passion to learn, and I would be honoured to help them gain that. As I have mentioned earlier, every student has a different approach to learning, and I believe in enabling them to acquire information in whichever way feels the most rewarding to them. As someone who used to find it difficult to learn new concepts, I understand that a personalized tutoring session is the most beneficial to both the student and the tutor.

Additionally, in my opinion, teaching is the best way of learning. Although I may be in University now, I still believe that I have a lot to learn, and I have found that teaching allows me to understand information better.

I have experience in teaching high school students. I have worked with them individually and online, using zoom.

I got started through a volunteer study buddy program organized by Schlumberger.

I have tutored high school students as a part of a study buddy program between May 2020 and August 2020.

About the lesson

Usually I prefer to contact them through email and find out exactly what they need help in. Afterwards, we schedule a time to meet online (through zoom or google meet) and begin classes.
