About Arnav

Hello! My name is Arnav, and I am currently enrolled as a freshman in college. I graduated ranked 6th out of 458 students in the Class of 2020 from my high school. In high school, I took mostly AP classes, and thus, I was very active in tutoring other students at my school; over the last 3 years, I have helped more than 20 students in subjects including, but not limited to, algebra, calculus, and chemistry. I really love sharing what I have learned and helping other students, so please reach out to me for any help you may need!

I enjoy meeting new people, and sometimes tutoring is a great way to do that. The main reason I enjoy tutoring, though, is because I love seeing what a lot of people call the "light bulb moment." I personally call them Bazinga moments (huge Big Bang Theory fan), which is when something clicks for my students, and they all of a sudden become a lot more confident with their work.

During my sophomore year of high school, I was enrolled in AP Chemistry. In that class, we were offered bonus points for tutoring entry-level chemistry students, so I started helping some of my friends in the entry-level classes. Inevitably, I always forgot the paper to document my tutoring, so I never got my bonus points, but I did enjoy helping my peers out. Since then, I've sought out students who needed or wanted my help with their academics.

I graduated high school in May 2020 with Distinguished Level Achievement and the following endorsements: Arts and Humanities, STEM, and Multi Disciplinary. Throughout high school, I was an All-A student, and I earned a score of 5 on the AP Exams for Calculus BC, Statistics, English Language, U.S. History, Microeconomics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1, Physics C: Mechanics, and Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism. I also earned a perfect score of 36 on my ACT.

As a member of National Honors Society, I was required to tutor for at least 3 hours each trimester from February 2019 - March 2020. I logged more than 5 hours for each term, and on many occasions, I tutored for undocumented hours. Additionally, before February 2019, I tutored students for 1-2 hours per week.

I like to draw up problems, especially when I'm teaching math or science, for my students to solve. I ask my students to show all of their work, so I can observe and identify exactly what they are struggling with. I then work the problems with my students, asking questions and making analogies to prompt them to realize the mistakes they made.

I tutor mostly high school students, but I am comfortable teaching younger students as well. I have worked with struggling students as well as those who just want a leg up on future classes.

Try to hire a teacher who makes the lesson feel more like a conversation and less like a classroom. You don't want someone to lecture at you and feed you information.

Additionally, ask a lot of questions. Whoever you hire, our main goal is to help you understand the content that you're studying better. When you ask questions, we are able to pinpoint your needs more effectively, and thus, we can personalize our lessons specifically for you.

About a month ago, we finally had our graduation ceremony, everyone wearing masks and socially distancing. The ceremony was on our football field at night, and seeing all of my classmates that one last time was great closure for an abruptly ended senior year.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask yourself how you learn best. A good teacher will be adaptable to your learning style, but if you're a visual learner and all your teacher does is lecture, he/she is not the right one for you. On the other hand, if you're an auditory learner and your teacher only explains ideas with diagrams and graphs, then he/she is not right for you either.

Also, try to identify what you are struggling with. Teachers are a lot more effective when you, the student, can communicate exactly what your struggles are. However, if you do find yourself struggling with everything about a certain subject, don't worry because we will still help you understand as much as you can as well as you can.
