About Alaina

I first started tutoring as a volunteer at my local library, working with elementary and middle school students for reading comprehension and homework help. Continuing on this, I later volunteered as a peer tutor at my high school, aiding my fellow students in Biology (regents, honors, and AP level), Chemistry (regents and honors), and French (regents and honors). Since then, I have expanded into private tutoring in Earth Science at the regents and honors level, developing independent lesson plans and practice sets to meet students with their particular needs. I offer in-person services as well as online, whichever suits your comfort levels (I am also fully-vaccinated and boostered according to current CDC guidelines).

I believe that good education is an education accessible to each and every student, regardless of their current performance or struggles in school. All students deserve support and guidance and I hope to serve as a personable and reliable aide!

There is nothing better than a student coming back to me with a test in their hand but a smile on their face. You are by no means defined by your grades but I do understand the stress and mental toll they can take. As I have personally struggled before with my self-esteem in relation to academics, I hope that I can help students break out of this mindset and show that school academics and good test grades are all attainable with a little help.

About the lesson

I first contact the teacher and request their own matierals for the class/the class progression. As a tutor, my job is to not only aide the student in their overall comprehension of a subject, but also that they succeed with their grades as well. Thus, in addition to creating and using my own resources/practice problems to help a student, I also consider that student's teacher's particular methods of how teachers want the student to do their work. Afterwards, I cater to students' specific needs and focus on area that they struggle in, tailoring tutoring sessions as personalized and one-on-one "extra-help" sessions that they would find in school.
