About Juan Pedro (JP)
I started teaching High School Mathematics in Mexico in 1993 and have taught everything from Algebra 1 and 2 to Precalculus and Calculus.
I currently teach AP Calculus AB, a course I have been teaching for the past six years in Denver, CO. I am also an AP Calculus AB Reader and have graded AP exams for the past three years.
My teaching strengths are Algebra, Precalculus and AP Calculus AB.
I am passionate about teaching Math and am bilingual (English/Spanish).
I started teaching fresh out of college, in 1993. My mom was the principal at a small high school in Cuernavaca, Mexico and was in need of a Math teacher. I had always been "good at math" but never thought of myself as a teacher. Thirty years later I am still at it and truly love my job!
I have a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering (class of 1992) from Tecnológico de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico.
I have been teaching High School Mathematics since 1993. In 2011 I moved to Denver and have taught at the same charter school since. I am currently the AP Calculus AB teacher and Math Department Director.
I have attended six AP Summer Institutes (training for AP teachers) with College Board consultants. I have been an AP Reader (grader of AP exams) for the past three yesrs.

It is important that the student has specific questions about their needs, content gaps, and misunderstanding. I request that my prospective students send me the topics, problems, notes, and/or assignments they want to work on at least two days prior to our session.
English and Spanish speaking, from private schools in Mexico to an urban charter school in the US.
Make sure you come prepared and ready to work hard. Focus on what you can control and don't dwell on previous bad experiences in your Math education.
Send your tutor the concepts, topics, notes, or assignments you are struggling with and want to work on so the time is spent as efficiently as possible.
A student that recently graduated from my school and was my Precalculus and AP Calculus AB student passed the AP exam last May and got a full scholarship at Colorado School of Mines. She texted me a few weeks ago to tell me she had her first Calculus exam and felt very confident thanks to what she learned as a senior in my class.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What specific topic am I struggling with?
Is there a previous topic or concept that I don't master and is preventing me from understanding new material?
