About Ashley

I will help you really understand the material. Often students try to memorize formulas, only to do poorly on the test because teachers will use one question to test understanding of multiple concepts. By helping you understand why you are doing what you are and not just memorizing steps and formulas, you can go far!

I love to teach. With the right guidance and enough practice, I fully believe everyone can do math!

My mom was a professor and I was grading her students papers when I was in high school. I started tutoring then, and have been teaching on and off for my entire adult life. I tutored underpriveleged children as a volunteer while in college. I taught high school math while I was in grad school, and college level finance as a side job once I started my career.

About the lesson

Start with asking the student to email me the material they are struggling with. That way I can review it and have an idea of where they are at before meeting with them, so that we aren't wasting time when we are together. As we work together, I take notes on areas that they have gaps in, and we will step back to fill those gaps as necessary.

Look for someone who is passionate about what they do, and can break the subject down into concepts. You dont want to just memorize equations, but understand what is happening.

What are your goals, how far behind are you, and how committed are you to reaching your goals? Are you dedicated to putting in the work? And will you practice between sessions with me? Also, be realistic about what you can afford. Most students need a minimum of two hours per week.
