About Svetlana
I have BS in math from Moscow State University (top University in Russia) and MS in math from Tufts University, Medford, MA. In 2000 I founded First School of Mathematics, a math enrichment centre based in Boston ((concealed information) where I have developed math curricular and studding materials for students 3rd to 12th grades. The program leverages the best of the US and Russian schools approaches and is flexible enough to tailor to individual goals from improving grades and getting ahead of the class to highly advanced students who are looking into Ivy League for further studies.
I have a track record of students who have passed SAT tests with the heist scores, were accepted into Ivy League colleges, have chosen math as their college study or profession.
I enjoy the look on students’ faces when they come up with an idea that works, or tell me how the school is easy, share good test results and the news of being accepted into college of their choice. But most of all I enjoy the journey with them.
My grandmother was a school’ principal and a math teacher. I remember a few students at her house and the magical feeling around the table. Tons of math books I could not comprehend then but found fascinating.
I started I think in my high school years, when our math teacher was struggling to understand what a student was asking; I could not stand this struggle, zipped to the board and said a few words answering his question… then I though I had a purpose to teach.
I have MS in math from Tufts University, was a PhD student but got other interests at the time and decided not to pursue PhD. I am a methodologist, structuring materials into logical sequence of study.

There is a free introductory session to discuss objectives, understand the starting points of study and overall receptiveness to new concepts.
I always aim at the highest result possible working at the maximum of student’ ability and try to extend it. I usually work on 2-4 concepts simultaneously within each session, assign HW, and ask parents not to interfere. I teach how to think, write, and speak math language. I don’t follow school curricula unless there is a need to help to review something before test or something teacher explained was not clear.
All types. I enjoy bringing them to the next level.
Talk to a teacher and see if you connect. The most important you both have fun, then it’s a different energy which promotes interest and effort.
One of my student just got into Yale for the next year. Another student who went to college this schools year just added math as a double major.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Intro session is very important. Connection with a teacher is crucial. I usually give a few problems to solve and then we discuss the best way to solve them. If a student feels he is getting tips even on a familiar topic, this is what we need.

I can't praise MathFit Centre enough! They're not just math experts; their unique ability to connect with students on a personal level has made a big difference for my child. In a just 11 months, thanks to MathFit Centre's approach, my child's math skills have visibly improved. The personalized teaching methods and commitment to ensuring a clear understanding of the material set MathFit Centre apart. In my opinion, and judging by my child's progress, MathFit Centre is in a league of its own.
