About Katrina

I played, and loved, volleyball for 8 years and started coaching in my 3rd year of college and fell in love with that. One of my friends in college had trouble with a math class and since I understood and was in a higher class I helped, ever since then I have helped with math because it can be difficult for some to understand just the way it is taught. I like the one-on-one ability because I am able to really focus on finding a way that best helps each person.

I have my bachelors degree in Mathematics and I have tutored for a few years on and off but I also coach high school volleyball and that has helped me understand the necessity of different methods as well as different approaches to teaching something.

About the lesson

The first session I like to understand where they are at and what they are having trouble with the most. Then I start explaining and ask if they understand, to gauge which approach works best for them to understand the method behind solving the problem rather than just getting the right answer.

I have worked with early elementary to college level math and have worked with in school and home-school children as well as online and in person college/high school students.

Make sure they are willing to find an approach that works for you so it isn't just finding the right answer but understanding the subject matter because even though you just want the answer, it could become a problem and you might need another tutor or help for something that uses what you learn as a basis.

The team I am coaching right now just won 1st place in Region and are headed to state playoffs next week.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about how you learn best, whether it be audio, visual, or both. Think about what frustrates you when learning this in your classroom setting and tell them that as well. It is easier to understand the pieces and the problems before they start so you can get in a better headspace before trying to learn it again.
