About Karla
As an experienced math teacher with over 15 years in the classroom I know how to find the gaps in understanding and fill in those gaps to help increase students confidence math and understanding of the foundational math concepts. I will customize my instruction to cater to your child's unique learning style. I love teaching math and my passion for helping students see their own potential is evident.
When I was a student in elementary school I struggled in math. I actually hated math. I spent many nights crying over my math homework, frustrated because none of it made sense to me. After several poor math grades on my report card I was pulled out of class a few times a week to work in a small group with our school's math coach. This was just the additional help I needed and I soon was able to pass math with an A.
This experience of struggling in math and having someone work with me on some of the foundational skills I was missing was so critical in my education development it can not be overstated. I went from feeling stupid and dumb to feeling confident and smart. I was inspired to help other students have this same transformation in their confidence and math ability.
I have a B.A in Math Education from Rowan University.
I also have over 15 years experience teaching middle school math in the classroom.

When I am working with a new student I like to give them an assessment to see where their strengths and weaknesses currently are in math. I also talk to the student to determine what their feelings are and possible struggles are in math. I also spend some time finding out their likes, hobbies and interests. This will allow me to customize my instruction to help keep your child engaged.
Once my initial assessment and conversation is conducted I can then create a individualized action plan to reach the goals we have set for your child.
I have worked with students from 1st grade to 8th grade.
