About Divyan

I am a passionate math and physics student attending Stony Brook University. I have been tutoring since the 7th grade, from math to foreign language to science I have helped my peers achieve better grades and scores on exams.

My personal qualifications include having completed the Unionville Chadds-Ford mathematics curriculum through AP Calculus BC as well as AP Statistics. I was the president of the math club and competed in competitions such as the AMC exam as well as competitions as Princeton, Harvard, and MIT.

Since beginning tutoring, I have tutored several students in both Calculus AB and BC, Advanced Mathematics (precalculus), Algebra 1 and 2, and pre-algebra. Although I prefer working with high schoolers, I have tutored people as young as age 6 and as old as 17 at the Kumon tutoring center before moving to my own private tutoring.

I like to get to know new people and their learning styles. Since I cater my learning experience to fit the student's abilities, discovering how they learn best and connecting with that is not only a learning experience for me, but a better experience for the student.

I got started teaching through the peer tutoring system at Charles F Patton middle school. Since then I have done private tutoring and worked for Kumon.

I graduated from Unionville High School in 2019 and will be majoring in Math and Physics at SUNY Stony Brook with the goal of becoming a professor. I was president of the math club at Unionville and have achieved significant recognition from the Continental math league throughout middle school, the AMC exam in high school, and international competitions at Princeton, Harvard, and MIT.

I have taken every mathematics course the Unionville-Chadds Ford school district offers students, and have performed at the highest levels, achieving a 5 on both the AB and BC Calculus AP exams.

For one year I tutored at the Kumon tutoring center in Kennett Square, and since I was 11 years old I have been tutoring my peers through the school or independent private tutoring.

About the lesson

I get to know the student and their work ethic and ideal ways of studying. From there I usually try to cater the tutoring process to what helps them learn best, whether it be more of a lecture-style or a hands-on style in which we work through homework problems together. Generally, I believe the process should be more student-led, as they know how they learn best, and I am there to make sure they are productive and to teach them the material that they are failing to understand.

I have worked with students aged 6 to 17, some learning at much higher than their level and others struggling at their math level. I have worked with both boys and girls and am comfortable teaching at any age range.

I would advise the student to look for a tutor who is able to cater to the student. As someone who has tutored often and is still a student, I understand the necessity of being in an environment in which you learn best. Therefore I advise any student to look for a tutor who is able to style their lesson in a way that helps the student the most by targeting their strengths in learning.
