About Cassandra

I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 2011. I can tutor K-12 Math and Science, College Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Physiology, Physics, Algebra, Calculus I, II, and III, Sociology, and Psychology. I worked for a few years as a Chemist in the Pharmaceutical Industry, but I left because of a combination of health issues and unsatisfactory pay & benefits packages within that industry. I have since been involved in various online businesses, but I miss tutoring/teaching so I thought to make myself available for a couple hours to help someone else out.

Ever since first grade, teachers would always comment to my parents how I would go around the classroom and help my classmates with classwork. I always helped friends and classmates with homework problems and re-explaining concepts before a test. In college I would lead study groups and in my junior year I tutored Organic Chemistry for the department.

The only reason I did not become a teacher is because of different political issues within the career of teaching clash with my personality. One example, I do not have the personality to try to inspire people to do what they do not want to do and as a teacher I would not have the freedom to drop students who do not want to learn. I cannot make another person learn anything, a person needs to put in work to learn something new. I can teach and teach, but if the student does not do the work they will not absorb the concepts. But if a student has the desire and is just struggling with some material, I love giving encouragement and confidence, showing them that they are not the problem, they are not deficient, they can “get it,” they just need a little extra help.

If a student does not understand something, I will say it in another way with examples and metaphors as many times as is needed, if desired I will create and try a variety of study tools until we find the one that suits them best.

I prefer having open communication with parents for students K-12, so that they know what the child still has to practice and I can receive feedback on what they see as working for the child/not working for the child and what progress is being made in terms of grades. In the case of college students, I have no preference for parental interaction because it may vary based on how independent the student is.

About the lesson

Mathematics lessons offered by Cassandra are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in Leipsic. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.
