About Lauren

Hi! Thanks for clicking on my profile. I've been teaching children since 2003 and have taught grades 4-7. Although I enjoy teaching children mathematics, I truly enjoy building positive relationships with them. Teaching is more than just trying to learn facts and solving a problem; it's about learning how to become a problem-solver and becoming more confident in yourself, not only as a student, but also as a person.

Education and working with children has always been my passion. I majored in education when I was in collge, and I have been teaching since 2003.

About the lesson

When I start working with a new student, I always want to discover their strengths and weaknesses. What is it about math that causes them to struggle? What is it about math that they enjoy? Additionally, I like to find out HOW they learn best - games, workssheets (i.e. traditional/drill sheets vs. 'fun' worksheets), etc. After I get a good sense of the above, a typical session has a certain flow to it: warm-ups, lesson(s), wrap-up.

As a public school and charter school teacher I have worked with students across the board: ranging from gifted and talented to special education.

My advice to you is look for someone who is willing to teach you HOW to learn, how to be the best you can be. Hire someone who not only wants to stretch your thinking but also build your character and build your confidence.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Are you willing to appreciate your mistakes? Are you willing to get a little bit uncomfortable in order to become a better learner?
