I have my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, k-8. Im also working towards my SPED, k-12, masters degree. I have classroom experience, and am certified in the state of North Carolina to teach. I'm looking for side work, until I finish my master's degree.

When my daughter was born, I switched from healthcare to education. I knew that I had to follow her throughout her educational journey, and I just fell in love with helping children learn and develop a new understanding.

I have my bachelor's degree in elementary education. I am also working on my Master's in instructional and curriculum design.

About the lesson

I like to get a baseline of what students know. I will do a prior knowledge check, usually in a teacher guided review. Then plan tutoring lessons from there. I will provide informal check-ins, which is a way to test them without pen and paper. And if we need to, we will revise the way we are learning. If everything is going accordingly, we can proceed. If possible, I like to keep lessons hands on, because it promotes a better learning environment. I'm not against formal testing, but I feel like that is an end subject option. Not something that they need to be doing throughout the entire process.

Have experience with all types of students, and all types of different disabilities. I have a five-year-old who has high-functioning autism, as well as an auditory processing disorder.

My advice would be to take it seriously. A lot of people think that teachers just go into the classroom ready to teach. We put a lot of hours into lesson plans, that have to follow North Carolina laws. It's a lot more than you think, but we do it because we love to help minds grow.

When I graduated, my school flew me out to Utah to speak at graduation. I got to meet the president of my school, and the head of my teaching department. I also got to meet Ken Jennings, which was actually pretty cool. I spoke in front of thousands of people, not including the ones that watched online. I was so nervous, but I just pretended I was talking to my classroom, and it eased my nerves.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think the most important thing to do it's be completely candid and honest. it's not about what you should think through in order to ask a teacher, but more so about what you need. You have to be honest, if you don't understand something. Otherwise, we cannot help you to the best of our abilities.

Details

Believe that everybody deserves a fair chance at education. And it all really depends on if we tutor online using whiteboard apps, or if I have to travel. My prices will be fair, as a teacher I worry more about helping children, than the money in my pocket.
