About Serina

I am a young and fun teacher who is always willing to help bring her students to the next level. I believe in always being positive and confident, any one can learn any level of math if they just believe that they can. I have been successful with my teaching and tutoring in the past, and look forward to continue helping students succeed the best that they can.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Adolescent Education; Secondary Mathematics grades 7-12. I have a Master's Degree in Middle School Mathematics Education grades 4-9. I have taught all different levels of math, from 6th grade through 12th, and in NY, VA and MD. I am entering my 7th year teaching professionally & my 13th year tutoring others, but have had a love for math my whole life.

I enjoy everything about teaching & tutoring. I love meeting new people. I absolutely love my subject matter, math. I love showing students their potential in a subject matter they may be uncomfortable with, showing them that if they believe even just a little bit that they can do it, that they will be able to. I believe that there can be fun found in math, if only the mind is open to it. I enjoy watching students light up when they begin to understand something that they didn't a few minutes before.

Ever since I was young, I wanted to be a teacher. I originally started an Elementary Education program during my Undergraduate program. But always had my love for Math in the back of my mind. So I decided to change my course, and become certified to teach only Math. I was originally certified in NY, but moved to VA to teach.

In 2014, I completed a Bachelor's Degree in Adolescent Education; Secondary Mathematics grades 7-12. I taught in a highschool, grades 8-12, teaching Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra Functions and Data Analysis. In 2017, I completed my Master's Degree in Middle School Mathematics Education, grades 4-9. Since then I have taught 7th grade Mathematics, and Prealgebra in two different middle schools. I have also taught Introduction to Geometry and Math Applications in Business in an Alternative High School setting.

About the lesson

I believe in getting to know the student, while starting with the grade level basics, getting them comfortable with not only the content, but also with me.

I have worked with students of all different levels;

I taught Inclusion Algebra 1 for 3 years.

I taught Honors Geometry for 2 years.

I have taught Inclusion Middle School Mathematics, as well as Honors setting Mathematics.

I taught in an Alternative High School setting in NY for one year, working with students on their own Individualized Graduation Plans, working to help them gain the credits they needed to graduate.

Make sure that you find someone that you are comfortable with, especially if math is an area that you're not comfortable in. Work with a tutor that is flexible, sometimes things come up and sessions need to be cancelled or rescheduled. Try and find a tutor who is not all about work and fact checking, hire a tutor who is willing to make lessons fun for you and will listen to your questions and concerns.

As a licensed and certified Middle & High School teacher, I usually price my sessions at about $50 per hour for a Elementary/Middle School Student (grades 6-8) and $75 per hour for a High School Student (grades 9-12).
