About Andrea

I am passionate about education and learning across a wide array of subjects. My aim is to help students grow confidence in their writing, reading, math, or SAT/ACT test preparation abilities.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that when a student approaches a subject through a personal lens, learning becomes not only easier but enjoyable. Each person has a unique learning style, and my responsibility as a tutor is to teach in a style that works best for the student.

My tutoring offerings are not streamlined or mechanical - I get to know the student as a person first, in order to deliver the material in a way that matches the student's personality. We all have unique communication and comprehension styles. I work with students' styles, rather than force them to adapt to my style. The student's success matters most.

My love of learning fuels my passion for tutoring on an array of subjects. I hold a BA from Cornell University with degrees in English and economics. I hold a number of post-graduate certifications, including Series 7, 63, and 79 financial services licensing, NASM personal training certification, and a yoga teacher's certification.

Sometimes we can't do it alone. If you are currently working towards a short or long-term academic goal, I will help you cross the finish line. Success is within your (or your child's) reach - you just need the proper tools and coach to get there.

About the lesson

When I meet a new student, we start out by simply having a conversation. I want to know about their academic background, motivations, frustrations, time constraints, etc. It's important to understand the emotions and mindset a student has regarding the subject material, not just test or homework scores.

Once we've been introduced, I'll ask for copies of previous work the student has done. If that's not possible, I'll administer a brief assessment test so I can better understand the student's skill level.

From there, I'll develop a results-based curriculum with periodic assessments throughout the course of our sessions. My tutoring style depends on real-time feedback so we know we're on track to reaching the student's goals.
