About James

I graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and I have been tutoring mathematics for over 5 years. I began tutoring in 2015 when I was hired by my college (FSCJ) to assist students with their course work at the campus library. After acquiring the foundational skills to be a tutor and moving away to attend University, I decided to launch my own privately owned tutoring business. I built JHC Tutoring from the ground up, starting out with just a couple of students, but have helped countless college and high school students finish their Mathematics based courses with a grade that they can be proud of.

I began tutoring for my college (FSCJ) in 2015 in the campus library. It was a great way to brush up on old subjects as well as pass time between classes. During my time there, I found that I truly enjoyed tutoring and that I was quite talented at finding unique ways to explain concepts to students in a way they could understand. After I moved away to attend UCF for my Bachelor's degree, I began tutoring privately and began my own tutoring business.

I graduated from the Unversity of Central Florida with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics in 2020, and have been tutoring privately for over 6 years.

About the lesson

I will typically establish some rapport with a new student before diving directly into their coursework. After that, I will ask them to show me what they are struggling with and to explain to the best of their ability what they do not understand about it. Using this first topic as a baseline, I am usually able to figure out what style of tutoring would be best for them. Some students prefer to have things explained to them in a way they can understand, some prefer to watch me do them problem and follow along with the steps, and some prefer to do the work themselves while I guide them through the problems they are having.

Mostly college and highschool age students in undergraduate and highschool level Math and Science courses. Most commonly Algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus, but I have tutored several other subjects as well.

If possible, try to find a teacher or tutor that you can have a friendly conversation with, rather than just someone that can teach you the subject. That way, when you are studying and learning with them, it doesn't feel like as much of a chore, and can be enjoyable.
