About Zev

I'm very enthusiastic about everything that I teach, and I strive to use creative methods to get my students to really deeply understand the material. That way they won't lose the knowledge after a year like they would with a more superficial explanation.

I've always loved teaching; there's something about passing on what you know to someone else in a manner that really helps them that is so emotionally satisfying. At the same time, I find it really interesting to try and come up with the best ways to teach someone a new topic.

Honestly, I've loved teaching everything STEM for as long as I can remember. By the time I was in middle school I was already looking to teach anyone I could about programming and math, and that urge hasn't stopped.

I am currently a CS major at Harvard University and have taken math through linear algebra and multivariable calculus. And I got 800 on math for the SAT and SAT2. Teaching specifically has been a big part of my life for a long time. When I was 11 I would teach even younger kids very simple block programming, I've spent a few years doing research on pedagogical methods at Brown, and I taught a brigade of younger high schoolers how to program properly on my robotics team.

About the lesson

After breaking the ice, the first step obviously has to be getting a gauge on where the student is at currently and what they need help with. Generally, for me, that involves asking them some questions about what they, but just as importantly giving them some quick questions designed to assess their strengths and weaknesses. After that, it's different for every student, as everyone needs different things. But I always strive to pinpoint the concepts they need help with, and teach them those underlying concepts rather than simply help them mechanically move through their problems.
