About Leah

I enjoy working with the junior high and high school age level. Working with students on math and making it relatable and easier to understand are how I like to teach. I make my students think of how concepts would work in real life and what is important to take away from different types of math. We talk a lot in my classroom about seeing if our answers make sense so that they can self-check their work.

My personality goes well with teaching math to this age group. I am a people person for sure and enjoy being around others. While I like working on math problems, I also am realistic about the way students may perceive it to be and why they struggle with it.

I have been teaching math for many years and have been working with this age group even longer. I used to coach at the college level as well. I am passionate about helping students and athletes gain confidence and grow into themselves as people. I enjoy a mentor-type role and am happy to use my experiences to help relate to them.

About the lesson

Getting to know the student and their specific needs is very important. It is important to know how a student thinks and approaches things as they work on new concepts and even more so, how to help them after they have learned something and need continuing work.
