About Christoper

My name is Christopher Poppell, I have a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, a 75% Bright Futures Scholarship, and am certified in Green Belt Lean Six Sigma concepts for improving process efficiency.

I have about 3 years of tutoring experiencing, helping students with AP French in high school, and Algebra, Calculus, and Physics 1 during college.

I love helping people, and I love mathematics. To the best of my ability, I will use these attributes to deliver a quality tutoring experience, so that I may give back to the community through the next generation.

I have a BS in Industrial Engineering, so I am well versed in the majority of mathematics leading to that point. I had a 75% Bright Futures Scholarship, and am certified in Lean Six Sigma concepts. I have about 3 years of tutoring experience, predominantly in mathematics, but can aid in physics as well.

About the lesson

First, I meet the parents and the student to see if we are a good fit. This accomplishes breaking the ice and learning the academic needs of the client. Next, the focus is addressing any significant problem areas and working through either practice problems or assignments given by the teacher. Ideally, it is very helpful to have the teachers materials available to the tutor, as some problems can be approached from multiple angles, so we want to be sure we are taking the correct path.

Generally speaking, I have experience with high school and college students. I don't have as much experience with elementary and middle school students, but I am confident that I can deliver a positive experience in this realm as well.

I don't have too much advice, but from student to tutor, it is helpful to know exactly what you are having issues with and concepts you may want to learn more about or get a head start on. And as with anything in life, be ready to practice, practice, practice!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The main thing a student or parent should focus on is ensuring the tutor is well versed in the material being taught. Practice tests, certifications, and previous experience are all good indicators.

In addition, never be afraid to ask questions. Everyone at school is going through the learning process, and not understanding material is nothing to be ashamed of.

Details

Generally, I charge 35 to 45$ an hour, based on difficulty of the subject. For example, Arithmetic will lean toward the 35, while Calc 1 will lean toward 45. Prices are negotiable within reason.
